Ajiraku Yumeri

Kanazawa, Ishikawa

A well-known restaurant using hometown connections to procure fresh seafood and local sake (Japanese alcohol) from Okunoto.

Making full use of the fact that it started out in Noto’s Ushitsu area, “Ajiraku Yumeri” sources its seafood in a unique way. This restaurant was founded with the desire to offer the freshest, most delicious food. The “Sashimi (sliced raw fish) Platter” on any given day is glistening and alluring, piled with rockfish, flounder, whale, tilefish, Japanese amberjack, whelks, and mackerel all fished that day from Noto. The fish, which are auctioned off at 7 each morning at Ushitsu fishing harbor are delivered to the restaurant in time for service that day, and promptly prepared. To go along with the seafood is local sake (Japanese alcohol) sourced from five distilleries. The owner loves the place where he was born and is captivated by the local foodstuffs. If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy seafood in Kanazawa, look no further than this restaurant, brimming with love for its hometown.

Sushi Naoki

Kanazawa, Ishikawa

A reasonable sushi restaurant where you can enjoy carefully prepared white fish and other seafood of Kanazawa.

[Sushi Naoki] is 5 minutes from Higashi Chayagai, a neighborhood in Kanazawa whose latticed windows and cobblestone streets have been recognized as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the Japanese government. It opened its doors in May 2020. The chef, Mr. Kita, is a friend of the fishermen who work at the nearby fishing harbor, and personally visits every day in order to rigorously select the best ingredients for his restaurant. Kanazawa is his hometown, and he wants to share the local flavors with his guests, so he meticulously prepares seafood such as white fishes, bluebacks, and shellfishes from the nearby ocean. He picks out the best fish of each season to serve to his customers, from sardines in spring to Japanese whitings in summer, sea breams in fall, and amberjacks in winter. Here, guests can enjoy dining in a high-class, stately building for a reasonable price.

Hibi Sakanazuki Toboku

Kanazawa, Ishikawa

Perfect for having a drink and trying Kanazawa seafood. A small but efficient restaurant located near the station.

“Rather than tuna or salted salmon roe that you can get anywhere, I want to offer up seafood that you can’t taste anywhere but in my hometown of Kanazawa,” says Mr. Hiroshi Toki, owner of “Hibi Sakanazuki Toboku.” As put forth in the restaurant’s name, the words “Hibi Sakanazuki” (loving fish every day) came from his realisation upon returning to his hometown of Kanazawa after working in Kyoto and Tokyo, of the easy deliciousness of fish that can be found anywhere. This is the place to appreciate the true flavors of Kanazawa-style fish and drink Kanazawa-style sake (Japanese alcohol). As it’s a small restaurant, there isn’t a huge variety of dishes available, but all drinks and food are made with love and care. The refined lineup of sake and fish is enough to make connoisseurs ooh and ahh. If you’re looking for a cup of Kanazawa sake with seafood, there’s no better place than this.
