Wagokoro Izumi

Kawaramachi/Kiyamachi/Pontocho (Downtown Kyoto), Kyoto

The spirit of the owner is demonstrated by the "hidden cuts" he makes in the meat to make it easier to eat.

Our Japanese dishes are combinations of different dishes such as Kawachi duck with hidden cuts, or egg castella (sponge cake) that has been cooked in the oven for around 6 hours. We aim to produce dishes that have a flavor that appeals to older customers and children too. We travel and talk directly to the fishermen and farmers. By doing this, they understand the flavors that we require. Products that come from this kind of relationship include our dried skipjack from Makurazaki, the Kawachi duck that can be eaten raw, and Kuwana clams. Ours is a small restaurant so we make sure to put due care and attention into each meal we serve. We are always aiming to produce a flavor that is satisfying to both heart and body, and to create a menu through which the four seasons can be enjoyed. We want you to enjoy everything about Japanese food, including the dishes the food is served in and the decor of the restaurant. We have three completely private rooms where you can enjoy your meal almost without interruptions.

Gion Sato

Kawaramachi/Kiyamachi/Pontocho (Downtown Kyoto), Kyoto

Skillfully prepared sushi and Japanese cuisine in a relaxing atmosphere

Sushi is traditionally thought to be completely different to cooking. If someone tries to do both at once, their technique in one of them will suffer. However, our chef learned both cooking and sushi making at a specialist level and is confident that he can satisfy you. We serve Japanese cuisine and sushi, so most of our cuisine is seafood. We are particularly proud of our meaty conger eel, sent directly to us from Port Akashi. Even as sushi, we serve it with salt rather than tare (sauce), so you can enjoy its melt-in-your-mouth texture. While many customers order a course meal the first time they visit us, they relax and order one dish at a time as they grow accustomed to our food, also pairing it with sake (Japanese alcohol). Our chef takes special care when serving his dishes-not too quickly or too slowly-and is careful to not interrupt conversation. He previously worked at the front desk of a hotel and believes this is how he naturally acquired these skills. We hope you will find us to be a mature izakaya

Make things from scratch and you can create your own unique flavor.

This dish, like all our cooking, is made from scratch and possesses its own unique flavor. Even with "so," a traditional Japanese dairy product, I insist upon freshness. The color is something that is completely different from processed food products, and the flavor is unlike anything else. Our homemade-style dried mullet roe is made without removing too much moisture, ensuring its soft texture. If the customer wants, we can slice and serve it with alcohol, but we recommend its soft texture as ideal with steamed rice. Since moving to this location, we haven't had a fixed closing time. We want customers to relax while they are here. After the meal we serve a sweet dish and a cup of houji tea (roasted green tea). Enjoy tea made in a kettle of clear well water. Just one cup serves to relax both mind and body.

Sumiyaki Unafuji Daimaru Kyoto Bettei

Kawaramachi/Kiyamachi/Pontocho (Downtown Kyoto), Kyoto

The extra-large, crispy, and fluffy blue eel and sauce are superb. Enjoy the taste of Nagoya's popular restaurant at Daimaru Kyoto.

"We want guests to fill up on delicious eels." With this concept as the basis, Charcoal Grilled Eel Fuji, established in Nagoya in 1995, is a restaurant that attracts guests with impressive taste. In 2023, this famous restaurant opened on the 8th floor of the Daimaru Kyoto Store on Shijo Dori in Kyoto. Being the first branch in western Japan, it is crowded every day with people smiling and enjoying the delicious eels. Only the largest of the best blue eels are selected, opened from the belly in the Kansai style, and grilled over a charcoal fire. The surface is crispy, and the meat is plump and juicy, and when combined with a secret sauce, it has a superb taste. An abundant menu, including the famous "Eel Bowl" and authentic "Hitsumabushi," is also a great part of the restaurant. The Michelin star and selected as one of the 100 best restaurants on the Tabelog Guide site are also proof of its excellence. It is a wonderful place for locals as well as traveling gourmets.
