Tokyo is a crowded, bustling city. There are many different means of transportation available. Have you considered cycling as one way to get around? Here are 9 rental cycling shops you can use in the Tokyo area! All stores have English speaking staff.

1. Mujirushi Ryouhin Yurakucho Shop, Yurakucho

Located right near the Yurakucho station, Mujirushi Ryouhin rents bicycles with 2 rental plans. They have 18 city bikes. Reservations can be done up to 10 days beforehand. You need to return the bike the same day. Official website in Japanese here. TEL: 03-5208-8241. 

Prices: 525 yen on the weekdays, 1050 yen on weekends and holidays. 3000 yen as insurance is required. Business hours 10:00 – 20:00.

2. Taitou-ku Rent-a-Cycle, Taitou-ku

There are 4 spots you can rental bikes for this service Taitou-ku offers. There are 4 rental plans. They have 200 city bikes. Usage is limited for people over the age of 12. You can return your bicycle any of the 4 areas. Official website in Japanese here.

Prices: 4 hours – 200 yen (+100 yen if late, +300 yen if kept overnight), 1 day  – 300 yen (+300 yen if late, must return bike by 20:30), 3 days – 600 yen (+300 yen per day late), 7 days – 1200 yen (+300 yen per day late). No insurance money is required. Business hours 6:00 – 20:00.

3. tokyobike gallery Yanaka, Yanaka

tokyobike gallery Yanaka sells and rental bikes at a Japanese old folk house-style store in the famous sightseeing spot, Yanaka. 4-2-39 Yanaka, Taitou-ku, Tokyo

4. Rin Project, Tawaramachiho

Located near Tawaramachicho station, Rin Project offers 7 bikes, including sport type bikes. You can rent for days, though you need to contact them for further information.You need to have some kind of identification, such as a driver’s license or a passport. Prices: 1 day – 1575 yen. 500 yen for casualty insurance and 2000 yen for general insurance is required. Insurance money is refunded when you return your bike. Business hours 13:00 – 18:00.

5. Tokyo Bike!!, Ebisu

Tokyo Bike!! offers their services within Westin Hotel, Tokyo. They have 2 rental plans. They have Louis Garneau and Cannondale. They also rent helmets at 500 yen. A map, light, and a small bag is included in the rental plan. Official website in Japanese here. TEL:03-5423-7620. 

A rental up to 3 hours costs 2000 yen. For a rental between 3 and 24 hours, it costs 4000 yen. 500 yen is added to your charges per hour the bike is late. 2000 yen for insurance is required. Open 24 hours a day.

6. Pillar Cafe, Shibuya

Pillar Cafe is located a 12 minute walk from the Hikarie in Shibuya. They offer 5 rental plans. They also offer free showers and hair dryers equipped with free with two-in-one shampoo and body soap. You can rent bath towels and beach sandals for 800 yen, and messenger bags for 500 yen. They have 6 bikes including ossso, Chill bikes, and CREATE bikes. Height over 150 to 190 cm is preferred. Prices: If you spend 500 yen at the cafe on food or drink, you get a free 1 hour bike rental. Over 500 yen is 1-3 hours. Over 1000 yen is 3-5 hours. Over 2000 yen is 5 hours. Over 3000 yen allows you to have the bike for more than 5 hours. 2000 yen for insurance is required but is refunded when you return the bike.

Business hours on weekdays are 12:00 – 24:00. On Saturdays, 11:00 – 24:00. On Sundays and holidays, 11:00 – 22:00. They have irregular closings, so be sure to check their website, Facebook, or call them beforehand.)

East Plus 1F, 2-22-3 East Shibuya-ku, Tokyo

7. Cogi Cogi, Shibuya & Skytree Area

Cogi Cogi is a share cycle system within the Shibuya (10 ports) and Skytree (14 ports) area. It requires signing up online at their official website. Member registration requires a device with internet access and a credit card. They have one day and monthly membership plans. They have electric bicycles. E-mail: Official website in English here.

Prices: 1500 yen – 1 day, 2000 yen – monthly membership (you can use anytime for an hour, with an additional 100 yen per hour delayed)

Business hours: 10:00 – 19:00 (last rental 18:00) 

8. Hirose, Hachiouji

Hirose is located within a 8 minute walk from both the JR Hachiouji station and Keiou line Kieou Katakura station. They have 3 rental plans. They offer city bikes and electrical bikes. For sport bikes and folding bikes, contact the staff. Reservations are required before rental. For electrical bikes, make reservations before the day of your rental. For one day rentals, please return the bike within business hours. If you’re borrowing the bike over night, please bring a copy of a permission slip of your place of stay. For short term rentals, please bring a copy of a contract for bicycle-parking space. Without any kind of certification for parking spaces, insurance money 10000 yen for city bikes, and 30000 yen for electrical bikes and sports bikes are required. 9. baybike, Yokohama

Baybike is a community rental bike service in Yokohama. To be able to use this service you need to become a member online and register your credit card information. For further information, visit their official website. They  have 3 rental plans. Official website in English here.

Prices: The first 30 minutes are 150 yen for your first time and it must be paid with credit card, with an additional 150 yen charge per each 30 minutes it’s delayed. A monthly membership is 2000 yen and is paid with credit card, but your first 30 minutes are free with an additional 150 yen charge per each 30 minutes of delay. 1 day is 1389 yen and if you sign up for 30KuriPasu you can pay in cash.

Business hours are 6:00 – 22:00. The No.5 Yokohama Bay Quarter Port business hours are 8:00 – 22:00. The No.30 Queens Park Port business hours are 7:00 – 22:30.
