Deigo in Taketomi Island

In April, those red flowers start to bloom in Taketomi Island.
Those are called “deigo” in Okinawa, in English they are called “Indian coral trees”, and you can see them on the way to the villages from Taketomi Harbor.
Full bloom!

In Okinawa, deigo flowers are the sign of good luck, for instance, passing the entrance exam or things like that.

It is also said that a big typhoon will hit the island after deigo flowers get in full-bloom very beautifully in April. It’s kind of a bad luck.

Typhoons come anyway, but hope we don’t get a huge one.

Shell gingers

If you’re in Okinawa, you can see shell gingers everywhere.
The colors of the flower is white and pink, and the shape is like a bell.
It’s called “getto” in Japanese, and it’s called “san-nin” in Okinawa.

Inside of the white and pink flowers, they have beautiful yellow flowers.

I’m a fan of Yaeyama Kaito because…

I am a big fan of his photography and that’s why I want to introduce his works to people all over the world. I love his photos because I can feel he loves Okinawa so much. He especially loves small islands in Okinawa and his photos are really relaxing. I hope you like them too!
