NEXT PROJECT : Incredibly Absorbent Bath Towels
TL;DR
- Highly absorbent, fluffy towels crafted in Imabari, Japan
- Infused with catechin, a compound with antioxidant properties commonly found in Japanese green tea
Why the MATCHA TOWEL?
Towels are indispensable parts of everyday life - and the quality of a towel makes all the difference. Drying oneself with a thin, cheaply-made towel after a refreshing bath can negate the positive time spent in the water, and then making sure the towel is dry for the next bathtime can be a chore. Not to mention how frequently these towels need to be replaced as they quickly get raggedy and musty.
It occurred to our current president, Tomoya Tamai, that green tea, an integral part of Japanese culture, contains a compound called “catechin” that is a proven antioxidant and antibiotic. We then decided to see if we could integrate this into a towel, and after trial and error, we were able to produce catechin-infused towels, thus named the MATCHA TOWEL!
The catechin infused in the MATCHA TOWEL helps the towels stay clean by ensuring that bacteria cannot easily multiply, and keeps it smelling nice with its slight tea scent! With your support, we hope to bring these wonderful towels from our little corner to the world, and support everyone’s daily lives!

The Secret Ingredient of the MATCHA TOWEL - Catechin
What makes these towels particularly special is that they are infused with catechin. The catechin compound infused into the towels is the reason they have been given the name “MATCHA TOWEL,” as catechin is an antioxidant compound that is commonly found in Japanese green tea. It keeps your towel clean without needing constant washing due to its antibacterial properties, and keeps it smelling nice too, with a grassy scent reminiscent of strong green tea.
The fact that they need to be washed less (in fact, we recommend fewer washes!) frequently adds to their sustainability, as fewer washes means less water used.
Lab results conducted on the towels showed evidence that even after 10 washes, catechin remained in the towel, which means that the towels can hold their antioxidant properties for a long while. You do not need to worry about the catechin washing out of the towels quickly!
What’s So Special About the MATCHA TOWEL?
The towels are extremely absorbent and not only swiftly soak up every droplet on your body, but will dry quickly themselves, meaning you will have a fluffy, dry towel waiting for you after every shower!
Super Zero - Extremely Absorbent Threads
The towels are made with a special type of thread called “super zero.” Super zero threads are created by weaving together cotton and water-soluble threads, and then dissolving the water-soluble threads. This leaves gaps in between the remaining threads, and the threads then react and expand when attempted to be twisted back. This leaves air pockets in the threads, which is what gives it its amazing absorbency and quick-drying properties.
