Osaka Castle, filled with the wisdom, history, and stories of the past

Japanese castles, katana, samurai, shoguns, stone walls. If you’re into any of these, lots of great memories are surely waiting for you at Osaka Castle.

But, just walking through the area isn't really enough to understand its appeal. What makes it interesting is that you can learn firsthand about Japanese castles and their history, samurai and shoguns, as well as the very souls of those samurai, katana.

In this tour, your guide will show you around Osaka Castle, and you’ll learn what it’s like to be a real samurai. Hone your skills through the sword-fighting experience.

Let's make amazing memories here together!

Tanimachi Yonchome, in the heart of a business district

You’ll meet up with your guide at Tanimachi Yonchome Station, the closest subway station to the castle. There’s a map and a museum signboard at the top of the stairs from exit 2. Rendezvous here. Osaka Museum of History, NHK Osaka Hall, and Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters are also within walking distance if you’re looking for other places to check out in the area.

Scenic pic in front of Osaka Castle’s Rokuban Yagura

The first thing you’ll probably notice in Osaka Castle Park is the impenetrable stone wall and moat surrounding the stronghold. This tour will take you to a very scenic spot where you can see Rokuban Yagura, a watchtower that rests on top of that wall. The combination of the moat and the watchtower is really a sight to behold. Take a photo here together with your guide!

The many secrets of Osaka Castle!

Past Osaka Castle's front gate, "Otemon," there is a huge rectangular space. What was it used for? For what purpose, from where, and how on earth were such huge stones brought inside? There are so many mysterious relics here, so if you're interested, feel free to ask your guide about them. The guide will also give you a few riddles during the tour, so have fun trying to answer them.

Experience what it’s like to be a samurai through sword-fighting

In Osaka Castle, there’s a place called "Miraiza," which was originally built as the military headquarters for the 4th Division of the Imperial Japanese Army. In the training hall, you can put on a kimono and practice your sword-fighting skills for an hour. Show everyone what you learned with pictures of your cool poses!

Get on the "Gozabune" boat, and enjoy the view from the moat

After touring the castle tower and crossing Gokuraku Bridge, you’ll board a luxurious boat called "Gozabune," which was made with the image of the Golden Tea Room in mind. In the past, these were used by nobles and people with high status. For 20 minutes, you can immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of Osaka Castle from this boat. Your guide will tell you all about the castle and its stone walls.
