Do you know “Children’s day” in Japan?
A national holiday to wish that boys grow up in good health
Children’s day in Japan is a national holiday on 5th May. This is the day where people wish boys grow in good health. (We have another national holiday for girls called “Hinamatsuri”.) This “people” means parents and grand-parents and this “boys” means their kids. So Children’s day is a day having family event. So mom does her best to see the smile of her son(s) by making kawaii diner for example.
What people do on Children’s day
1. Decorate “Koinobori” at home
We have 3 what parents are supposed to do traditionally. The first one is to decorate “Koinobori” somewhere around house. “Koinobori” is colorful fish decoration like this.
2. Decorate “Kabuto”
The second one. Parents decorate “kabuto”, the gorgeous helmet inside the house. And they take a picture of their son(s) with “kabuto”.
