Goya Champuru

Ingredients *Serves 2
・Pork or spam, sliced to a size you like (some like it bigger, some like it smaller)
・1 bitter melon (goya)
・200g of tofu
・2 eggs
・Oil, salt, dashi (dashi is a class of soup and cooking stock used in Japanese cuisines)


Cut and open goya, remove seeds and seed coats with a spoon.
slice it into thin pieces (some people who prefer it bitter slice it into thick pieces but I think it’s too bitter for people who are not used to the taste).
Beat eggs.
Cut tofu to a size you like.
Heat pan and add oil. Stir-fry goya and pork.
Then, add tofu and eggs and and season with salt and dashi.
You can ass pepper or soy sauce if you like.

Taco rice

Taco rice is a popular example of Okinawan cuisine.
It’s so easy to cook!

Ingredients*Serves 2-3

・200g of Ground beef
・1 onion
・2 tomatoes
・Shred cheese
・Salt and pepper


Mince an onion and stir-fly with ground beef and season it with salt and pepper.
Cut tomatoes and lettuce into small pieces (you can cut them to sizes you like).
Make a bed of rice.
Then, put the stir-fried beef and onion, tomatoes and lettuce and shred cheese on the bed of rice.
Finally, put salsa on it.

Sata andagi are sweet deep fried buns of dough similar to doughnuts


Rafute is called Kakuni in Japanese. It’s a Japanese braised pork dish.

Awamori is an alcoholic beverage unique to Okinawa. It is made from long grain indica rice.

Orion Breweries, the 5th largest beer brewery in Japan, headquartered in Okinawa. The company commands just 1% of the Japanese beer market, but it commands more than 50% of the beer market on Okinawa!

Where can you find Okinawan food and drinks?

If there is a Japanese grocery store in your town, I’m pretty sure you can find them there since Okinawan food and drinks are very popular in Japan.  
Also, goya can be found at some Asian markets. Goya, bitter melons are eaten in some Asian countries.
