[Updated Travel Information] Japan to Begin Accepting Tourists on Unescorted Package Tours!

The Japanese government has announced that tourists on unescorted package tours will be allowed into the country from September 7, 2022. Overall entry restrictions will be loosened, such as raising the maximum number of entrants from 20,000 to 50,000 a day and no longer requiring a negative PCR test result upon arrival. 5 Things To Know About Entering the Country

1. Japan will allow tourists on unescorted package tours held under the supervision* of a travel company

2. Travelers from all countries and regions will now be allowed

3. Round-trip flight tickets and lodging must be arranged by the travel company

4. Travelers may move about freely during their stay

5. Travelers must obtain a visa

*Only travel companies registered under the Travel Agency Act can act as the responsible party

What Will Change Other Than the Package Tours?

・The daily limit of entrants (including Japanese nationals) will be raised from 20,000 to 50,000 people per day

・The requirement of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure will be reviewed

A negative PCR test is not required if proof of getting 3 doses of a Japanese government-approved vaccine can be provided.

In other words, those who have gotten 3 doses of a Japanese government-approved vaccine can travel almost as freely as during pre-Covid times, other than needing to arrange flight tickets and lodging through a travel company. Although there are annoying procedures such as procuring visas still in place, we hope that all you Japanophiles out there consider taking this opportunity to travel to Japan.
