7 Custard Puddings You Can Buy As Souvenirs in Tokyo

1. Harajuku Honey Pudding at Colombin (原宿はちみつプリン(コロンバン))

This special custard pudding is only available at the main store of Colombin, at an established dessert and patisserie store. Instead of caramel sauce, this pudding is served with the premium quality honey made at the rooftop of the store. After enjoying the pudding, you can reuse the container made by a German brand, Weck, as well.

2. Ufu Pudding at Quatre (うふプリン(キャトル))

This cute looking custard pudding is in a real eggshell.  The pudding has a rich taste and smooth texture. In addition to a regular pudding, there are other flavors including chocolate and strawberries. It is also a good choice for a snack for children.

3. Sesame Egg Pudding at Ginza Tamaya (ごまたまごプリン(銀座たまや))

This sesame egg pudding is a sister product of "Goma Tamago (Egg Sesame)," a famous dessert often chosen as a souvenir from Tokyo. Underneath the smooth custard pudding, you'll find a rich black sesame paste. As it lasts for a long period of time and can be purchased in many places, including major train stations and department stores, this is a good choice for souvenirs especially when you have only little time to shop.

4.  Smooth Puddings (Nameraka-Pudding) at Toyonchi No Tamago (なめらかぷりん(とよんちのたまご))

Toyonchi No Tamago is a rare egg specialty store. Within the same day as they are collected from a farm in Chiba prefecture, the fresh, organic eggs are used to make this custard pudding. While rich in taste, this pudding is very smooth and not too sweet. So, this would be a nice pick for a dessert for everyone, not to mention those with a sweet tooth. Other available flavors include matcha (Japanese green tea) and chocolate.

5. Melting Pudding (Torokeru Pudding) at Tamago Kobo Ueno ( とろけるプリン(たまご工房 うえの))

Although this store is located in the outskirt of Tokyo and takes 30 minutes on foot, this excellent pudding proves that it is well worth the trip. This smooth and rich custard pudding is made with the fresh eggs and milk produced by the farm adjacent to the store. The nuts sprinkled on top of the pudding gives a nice accent.

6. Ningyōchō Fūrin (wind chime) at Tsukushi 人形町風鈴(江戸菓子匠・茶寮「つくし」)

The fifth owner of this established sweets store rearranged the original recipe of this custard pudding, which was first created in the Edo era. Carefully and delicately made, this pudding has a slightly chewy texture and an air of Japanese modernity. Bittersweet caramel and the rich custard pudding melt together in your mouth and create an amazing taste.

7. Asakusa Silk Pudding (浅草シルクプリン)

Just as its name says, this is a silky smooth pudding made with fresh eggs and creams from Hokkaido. The excellent combination of very rich custard pudding and bitter caramel has made many fans. It is in a cute, retro-chic glass container.
