European-style hotels and luxury hotels are all well and good but if you’ve come all this way to Japan why not try staying in a ryokan or onsen inn complete with tatami and futon? You can also bathe in an onsen or public bath! Eat traditional Japanese food! All of these lodging places have English websites so you know exactly what you’re getting into. If this is what you want, here are some places to stay in Osaka that offer exactly what you’re requesting.

1. Yamatoya Honten (大和屋本店), Dotonbori

You can experience true Osakan hospitality at this ryokan on the Dotonbori riverside. They have a ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurant), a public bath, and a sauna, so it’s a ryokan where you can relax. Prices start around $30.

2. Meiji no Mori Minoo – Otowasansou (明治の森・箕面 音羽山荘), Minoo

4. Fushio Onsen Fushioukaku (伏尾温泉 不死王閣), Ikeda

This ryokan offers a garden, open-air bath, full meeting spaces, and even a stone sauna that you can enjoy. It’s 30 minutes by car from the Osaka city center. 14. Reimei-en (れいめいえん), Osaka-ko
