Tachikichi serves tasty gyoza (餃子). It uses selective ingredients for the filling and unlike usual gyoza dumplings, they do not contain garlic so you need not worry about your breath after eating them. The lunch deal starts from 580 yen with a dish of dumplings (as seen in the picture), bowls of soup and rice, and a side dish of kimchi. There are some other good lunch offers as well. We can’t recommend more of this value-for-money eatery.

2. Nadai Fuji Soba Shibuya Shop (名代 富士そば 渋谷店)

Fuji Soba is a chain restaurant which offers good soba at a reasonable price. It’s so famous it even appears on guidebooks to Japan. This shop in Shibuya is the first of its numerous branches in and around Tokyo. Most things on the menu cost less than 500 yen.  English menu is also available so you can drop in and order a bowl of soba with no hassle.

3. Kokkuman (コックマン)

Japanese style western cuisines are on offer at Kokkuman. The pictured dish of roast beef comes with a salad and soup for a whopping 500 yen. Good bottles of wine are also on deck at this restaurant so you can wine and dine on a budget.

4. Bishokusaikan (美食菜館)

You can have a hearty inexpensive Chinese meal at Bishokusaikan. The above picture is Kanitama Itame (かに玉炒め), a Chinese-style omelette with crab meat. It comes with rice and soup at 600 yen. There are many good dishes including hand-cut Chinese noodle called Toshomen (刀削麺)which are around the price band of 600 yen or below. You will be spoilt for choice.

5. Bistro Gokigendori Shibuya Honshaten (ビストロゴキゲン鳥 渋谷本社店)

This restaurant is known for serving good chicken dishes. The above picture is Toriwasa-don (鳥わさ丼, 500 yen). It’s a rice bowl with slices of pink-in-the-middle chicken meat and tasty special sauce. Torisoboro-don (鳥そぼろ丼, another rice bowl dish with seasoned minced chicken which is also served at 500 yen during lunchtime. Both chicken toppings go extremely well with rice and are highly recommended.

6. Tou Soba Koen-dori Shop (唐そば 公園通り店)

Founded in 1999 in Tokyo, the most competitive and the toughest city for ramen restaurants to make it or break it, this eatery offers authentic Kyushu ramen at a reasonable price. The above pictured ramen with light tonkotsu ramen broth (pork bone broth) is just 600 yen.

7. Black Brown (ブラックブラウン)

This restaurant is popular among youngsters for its pasta dishes with substantial servings. The above picture is spaghetti with shrimps and scallops (600 yen). There are a variety of dishes on the menu for 600 yen or less. The standard portion is huge, but if you are hungry, an extra 180 yen will provide you with an even bigger portion.

8. Students Canteen, Aoyama Gakuin University Aoyama Campus (青山学院大学 青山キャンパス 学生食堂)

As the name suggests, it is a canteen for students at Aoyama Gakuin University but members of the public can also dine here. The pictured dish is chicken katsu, the main dish of a set meal served with rice, miso soup, and a side dish of potato salad which costs you less than 500 yen in total. Everything is within the price range suitable for students so why not drop by after a stroll on campus.

Authentic oven-baked pizza is what you get at this cheerful eatery. Lunchtime deal on weekdays is 500 yen for a plate of pizza of your choice, together with a side salad and a glass of drink. Pizzas are baked in a genuine pizza oven, so the pizza doughs are crispy and taste delicious.

10.  Sushi Daidokoya Shibuya Main Shop (すし台所家 渋谷本店)

This is a revolving sushi shop, but it also serves good, value-for-money rice bowls with a bowl of clear soup during lunchtime at 580 yen. The fresh seafood toppings change depending on the catch of the day.

This restaurant is famous for negi (leek) cuisine. At lunchtime it offers a set meal called Obanzai Teishoku (おばんざい定食) at 500 yen. Obanzai is traditionally native to Kyoto but essentially they are home cooked cuisines. You can therefore indulge in good simple Japanese dishes you wouldn’t come across through typical sightseeing.

12. Ningen Kankei cafe de copain (人間関係 cafe de copain)

This cozy cafe is an establishment with a history of more than 3 decades. Weekday lunch deal is a plate of hearty sandwiches with a drink for 550 yen. It also offers delicious scones with various flavors so if you have room for a dessert after lunch, may we recommend you a scone with tea.
