1. Meiji no Yakata

As one of the valuable buildings from the Meiji Era, Meiji no Yakata is also registered as a tangible cultural property. One of their recommended popular menu items is their omelette rice (omurice) which uses thick, flavorful ketchup for the chicken rice, with fluffy egg placed on top and a special demi-glace sauce. Eating lunch in the ambiance of the restaurant is quite exceptional. After visiting Nikko Toshogu, you should definitely go there.

2. Asaya Resthouse

Asaya Resthouse is located right in front of the World Heritage Shinkyo bridge and there you can try various dishes made using one of Nikko’s famous foods, nama yuba (raw tofu skin). The colorful yuba lunches are recommended for their heart portions and variety of items! Because of its beautifying properties, it’s a particularly recommended spot for anyone particular about their looks.

3. Kamaya

Kamaya is famous for their “NIKKO Don” made of yuba (tofu skin) and roast beef. In addition to the NIKKO Don, they offer a delicious and reasonably priced menu with abundant choices like a hamburg steak lunch which uses A5 rank Japanese Black beef, curry lunch, pasta lunch (with various selections), pizza lunch and more. No matter the dish, all are exquisite and give you the taste of delicious ingredients from Nikko. It’s a restaurant that’s also highly popular with the locals.

7. Guruman’s Wagyu

You can eat Nikko’s special wagyu (Japanese beef) at Guruman’s Wagyu. You can eat top grade wagyu sirloin steak for lunch and there are many people who visit from afar. 8. Sobadokoro Daikokuya

Sobadokoro Daikokuya is a popular soba restaurant in Nikko. You can savor the taste of genuine hand-made soba and flavorful dashi soup. They offer a delicious soba menu. There’s kakiage soba with large portions of fried seafood and vegetables on top, sansai soba with fresh mountain vegetables, tororo soba, zaru soba and more. At Nikko Suien, a popular restaurant in Nikko, you can have genuine Hong Kong style food. Their seafood yakisoba has fresh ebi and squid, and their lunch menu has a hearty range of excellent dishes! Also, not only do they offer substantial meals, their homemade annin tofu (almond jelly) has just the right amount of sweetness and is delicious. This well-known restaurant has many loyal fans.
